How to Make It
- 1
Prepare Your Fruit
If using fresh mango and pineapple, peel, core, and chop into rough 3–4 cm chunks. If your banana is not yet frozen, you can use it fresh, though a pre-frozen banana creates a significantly creamier, thicker texture. Peel and finely grate the fresh ginger on a microplane or fine grater.
Tip: Pre-portion and freeze your mango and pineapple in zip bags the night before for an even colder, creamier smoothie and faster morning prep. - 2
Build Your Blender for Smooth Results
Add the liquids first — pour the coconut water and coconut milk into the blender jug. This protects the blade and helps the blender pull down solid ingredients more efficiently. Add the frozen banana next, followed by the mango, pineapple, and ginger.
Tip: Always liquid first — this is the single most important technique for a smooth, lump-free result, especially with a standard home blender. - 3
Add Your Functional Boosters
Add the freshly squeezed lime juice and the pinch of ground turmeric directly over the fruit. If using ice cubes, add them now on top of the fruit layer.
Tip: Turmeric's active compound, curcumin, is better absorbed in the presence of fat. The coconut milk in this smoothie serves as the ideal carrier — do not skip it. - 4
Blend to Silky Perfection
Secure the blender lid firmly. Blend on high speed for 45–60 seconds until completely smooth and creamy with no visible fruit chunks. Pause, scrape down the sides with a spatula if needed, and blend for a further 15 seconds. Taste and adjust — if you prefer more brightness, add a few extra drops of lime juice.
Tip: For an ultra-silky consistency, blend for a full 60 seconds rather than stopping early. The extra 20 seconds makes a noticeable difference in texture. - 5
Finish and Serve
Pour the smoothie into two tall chilled glasses. If adding chia seeds, stir them in with a long spoon after pouring — this prevents them from clogging the blender blades and ensures even distribution. Allow to rest for 2 minutes if you want the chia seeds to begin hydrating and forming a slight gel, which further improves the fibre benefit.
Tip: For a clinical hydration boost during illness, heat, or postpartum recovery, substitute half the coconut milk with an additional 120 ml of plain coconut water to reduce fat and significantly increase electrolyte content.
