How to Make It

  1. 1

Steam or boil pumpkin chunks for 15 minutes until very soft. Drain and transfer to a blender with 300ml of the water. Blend until completely smooth.

  2. 2

Mix glutinous rice flour with warm water gradually until a smooth, firm dough forms. Roll into small marble-sized balls.

  3. 3

Pour the pumpkin purée into a pot. Add remaining 400ml water and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly.

  4. 4

Drop the glutinous rice balls into the simmering porridge. Cook for 5–7 minutes until they float and are cooked through.

  5. 5

Season with salt and sugar. Stir and adjust consistency — add more water if too thick.

  6. 6

Ladle into bowls and garnish with pine nuts.
