How to Make It

  1. 1

    Combine Dry Base Ingredients

In a lidded jar or airtight container of at least 500ml capacity, add the rolled oats, chia seeds, flaxseed meal, ground cinnamon, and whey protein powder. Stir the dry ingredients together thoroughly so the protein powder is evenly distributed before adding any liquid — this prevents clumping.

Tip: Mixing dry ingredients first ensures the protein powder dissolves evenly and does not form dense lumps in the final texture.
  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

Pour the almond milk over the dry mixture, followed by the Greek yogurt, vanilla extract, and honey or maple syrup if using. Stir vigorously with a long spoon or small whisk until the yogurt is fully incorporated and no dry pockets of oats or protein powder remain. The mixture will appear quite loose — this is correct.

Tip: For a smoother, creamier texture, whisk the yogurt and milk together in a separate bowl before adding to the oats.
  3. 3

    Fold in Half the Berries

Gently fold in half the berries (50g) into the oat mixture. If using frozen berries, add them straight from frozen — they will thaw overnight and release natural juices that further flavour and colour the oats without added sugar.

Tip: Reserving half the berries for topping preserves their texture and visual appeal at serving time.
  4. 4

    Refrigerate Overnight

Seal the jar or container and refrigerate for a minimum of 6 hours, ideally 8–10 hours (overnight). During this time the oats and chia seeds absorb the liquid, the chia seeds gel and expand, and the protein structures from the yogurt and powder set into a thick, creamy consistency.

Tip: Prepare up to 3 jars at once for a 3-day meal prep supply. They keep well refrigerated for up to 72 hours.
  5. 5

    Finish and Serve

Remove from the refrigerator in the morning. Give the oats a thorough stir — if the mixture appears too thick, thin it with 2–3 tablespoons of additional almond milk. Top with the reserved fresh berries. Consume cold directly from the jar or allow to sit at room temperature for 5 minutes if preferred.

Tip: For individuals managing blood sugar, eat this breakfast within 30 minutes of waking and pair with a small handful of walnuts to add healthy fats that further blunt the glycaemic response.
